Runners on State Street in Media Five Mile Race

The Media 5 Mile Race was a resounding success last night with thousands of racers, residents, and visitors crowding on State Street, Veterans Square, and around town to watch the racers and cheer them on.

Winning the race was 23-year old Dan Lewis of Ardmore, PA with a race time of 25:25.67, with a 5:05 minute mile. The fastest runner in the Women’s category was 37-year old Merande Schwelin from Media, Pennsylvania.

The Media 5 Mile Race 2011 results are available on the Compuscore website.

The race’s organizers were Art Brown, Borough Councilperson Monica Simpson, and her husband Bob Simpson.

Monica Simpson told Media, PA News:

“We’re grateful that the weather cooperated, and we’d like to thank all of the race’s supporters, volunteers, and sponsors. This is probably the one event that encompasses the businesses, sponsors, community members, and volunteers and shows the uniqueness and spirit of Media, PA to all of our visitors.”

The race had 1400 registered runners, and according to Simpson, there were no incidences with the EMT, or the police.

“The EMS teams were really good … they ride around on bikes, and look for runners who may be in distress before they are in distress. They’re really very proactive to ensure it’s a safe run.”

Simpson also thanked Chief Wucinich and the media police department, as well as all those involved, including the highway department who ensured the race path was cleared.

Money raised by the Media 5 Mile race goes to various charities, listed on their web site.

The race is also a time of many house parties in Media, PA, with residents lining the streets to cheer on friends and neighbors as they compete in the annual race.
