RELEASE: New Concept in Veterinary Care coming to Wallingford

Public Invited to Help Create Paws-N-Tails Mural on November 23rd at Media Community Center

RELEASE – Wallingford, PA – When Unity Animal Hospital opens its doors at 1 N. Providence Road in Wallingford in early 2014, pet owners will have an exciting new option in comprehensive medical care for their four-legged family members.

Established, owned and operated by two Delaware County residents, veterinarians Katherine Trow, VMD, and Abby Schutzman, VMD, Unity Animal Hospital was developed using a business model previously unheard of in veterinary practices. Operating much like a cooperative business (such as a food coop), members will pay a modest one-time initiation fee, along with a nominal monthly fee, allowing them to spread out all of their pet’s annual routine medical charges into small, monthly installments.

The monthly fee will cover all of an animal’s standard preventive medical care, including an annual check-up, core vaccinations, and fecal and heartworm testing. Non-routine care, such as sick visits, surgery, and emergency care, will be offered at a reasonable additional cost. Membership is optional, although members will receive services at lower prices than non-members.

The mission of Unity Animal Hospital is to provide exceptional veterinary care at fair prices in an atmosphere of trust and respect. Drs. Trow and Schutzman are committed to maintaining a transparent, collaborative, and economically sustainable practice. In addition to serving family pets in the area, Drs. Trow and Schutzman look forward to helping rescue organizations and service animal groups. While attending veterinary school, Dr. Schutzman spent much of her free time volunteering in the clinic of a large Philadelphia animal shelter, where she provided medical treatment and performed spay/neuter surgeries on hundreds of animals.

Dr. Schutzman explains, “At Unity, we are committed to providing the same high-quality, comprehensive care to rescue and shelter animals that we provide to client-owned pets. We will donate a portion of our profits to our rescue clients to help fund care for their animals, keeping their vet costs as low as possible.”

In keeping with its spirit of inclusiveness and community involvement, Unity Animal Hospital invites the public, and their pets, to participate in the creation of a mural designed by prominent Media mosaic artist, Claire Brill.

The event will be held on Saturday, November 23rd, from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. in the Media Community Center, 301 N. Jackson Street, Media.

Ms. Brill has designed Paws-N-Tails, a 4-foot x 20-foot mural comprised of clay paw prints of the public’s own animals, along with their names, surrounded by mosaic tiles patterned to look like animal tails. Anyone interested in having a pet’s paw print included in the artwork may bring the animal to the event on November 23rd and have the print set in clay for a charge of $100 per animal. For an additional $50, participants will receive a second paw print of their pet to take home. All dogs attending the event must be leashed, and all cats and other animals must be in secure carriers. Participants may pre-pay for their paw prints at Eventbrite.com or may pay at the event.

The Paws-N-Tails mural will be an ongoing project, and the finished artwork will be prominently displayed on a wall of Unity’s reception area. Any funds raised for the project in excess of the artist’s fee will be donated to Unity’s Animal Retention Fund, which is being established to offset the costs of emergency treatment for animals whose owners have financial need.

The November 23rd event will also allow the public to learn more about Unity Animal Hospital, meet the veterinarians, ask questions, and sign up to become members.
