Media youth picked to sing with piano prodigy

From the Delaware County Times:

In order to help his son, Gregory, develop public-speaking skills, Media resident David Smith thought it would be a good idea to introduce him to the Media Theatre.

Three years and several major performances later, the Episcopal Academy sixth-grader is set to sing at the Keswick Theatre in Glenside, Montgomery County, Monday, alongside nationally renowned piano prodigy Ethan Bortnick. The two will also perform at the Best Buy Theatre in New York City the following evening.

With a combined age of no more than 20, the two musical artists’ performance Monday is part of Bortnick’s national tour and a fundraiser for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

“I’m really happy about all that’s happening. I’m really excited for this concert,” said Gregory, 11. “I guess I’m a little nervous, but I think overall it’s going to be a lot of fun to perform with Ethan because he is really talented.”

An accomplished musician and actor in his own right, Gregory has appeared as the title role in the Walnut Street Theatre’s Oliver! as well as an extra in Britain’s Royal Ballet, when the group performed at the Mann Center in Philadelphia.
