Media Borough Council Public Hearing, December 1st, 2011: CBDG

Dec 01

Media Borough Council met at 7:00 PM on Thursday, December 1st for a public hearing regarding the borough’s applications for grants from Delaware County in the form of a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). All members except Monica Simpson were present. No members of the public were present for the meeting.

The brief discussion began with Jeffrey Smith, Borough Manager, who outlined what types of projects would be eligible for CDBG monies, as well as outlining the steps that should be taken by the borough in order to apply for the grants. In short, Borough Council must take two steps in order to receive grant money: Hold a public hearing, and then approve a resolution authorizing the application at a later date.

Pete Alyanakian, Borough Council President, indicated that the county had awarded more than $300,000 in awards to borough projects in the past three years.

It was highlighted that CDBG monies were awarded to projects which assisted low-income residents, as well as those which helped residents with disabilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act. (ADA)

Several projects were discussed:

  • Improvements or replacement of the borough complex elevator, which was installed in 1995 in used condition
  • Road resurfacing projects in the Southern district of Media
  • Sidewalk additions and repairs along Jefferson Street
After discussion, the consensus outlined by Peter Williamson was to approach the Elevator and ADA projects first, then sidewalk and other street projects second.
The meeting was adjourned after 18 minutes.
