Art exhibit by artist Chantal Westby through November 10th

Aug 19

Edgmont, PA – AUGUST 17, 2012 –Beauty Art, Antiques & Gifts is holding its first art exhibition of the fall season with the exhibit “Wind and Air” featuring a stellar array of large and extraordinary pieces by artist Chantal Westby. The much-anticipated installation will run from September 15 through November 10. Art lovers are invited to attend the Artist Reception on September 15, 2012, 5 to 8 p.m.

“Chantal’s work is about love: Love to God, to the angels, to herself, to people around her, and especially to earth, water, fire, wind and ether,” says Kassem Amoudi, CE Program Art Instructor at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. “I admire watching her moving between the spiritual and between the physical worlds as she paints. She touches both the highest and the lowest notes, and dances between them.”

Gallery owner Paula Jackson adds:

“Chantal’s paintings represent the physical and spiritual worlds in surprising ways. Many paintings reflect her admiration of physical elements. She incorporates sands, stones, fibers with shimmering pigments, playing with them on her canvases to create texture and depth akin to the earth’s crust or water.”

ABOUT CHANTAL WESTBY

Chantal Westby creates works of art that not only speak of her own memories but also encourage the spectator to investigate their own. The artist attributes her vision to her desire to encourage a visual dialogue between the spectator and herself. She accomplishes this task through her large-scale acrylic and multimedia paintings. Her compositions elevate recognizable forms and subjects to an abstract level, stripping them of their tangible boundaries and allowing them to exist in their most organic state.

Westby furthers this abstract quality by altering the perspective, often presenting her depicted scenes in a di sotto in sù style. In doing so, she creates a field of depth that allows the spectator to look up into the compositions toward illusionistic upper thresholds, intensifying the emotions captured on the canvas support.

Born in France, Westby migrated to the United States in the 1980s and has actively painted in Pennsylvania since her arrival. She studies at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia and Main Line Art Center in Haverford, PA.
