RELEASE – ROTARY CLUB OF CENTRAL DELAWARE COUNTY TO HOST AUTISM AWARENESS SYMPOSIUM

The Rotary Club of Central Delaware County will host an Autism Awareness Symposium and Luncheon on Saturday, March 23rd from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm at the Towne House Restaurant in Media.

Dr. David S. Mandell, Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine and Associate Director of the Center for Autism Research at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia will be the keynote speaker.

The 2013 Autism Awareness Symposium Luncheon will contain discussions of the latest research and services available for those on the autism spectrum from early childhood through adults.   Attendees will have the opportunity to hear best practices from and to ask questions of Dr. Mandell and other experts on the symposium panel.

Tickets for the symposium and luncheon are $30.00 each and can be purchased online or through members of The Rotary Club of Central Delaware County.  This is the second straight year that Central Delaware County Rotary has hosted an autism awareness event.

All proceeds will support local autism research and services.  Sponsorships are also available.

David S. Mandell, ScD, directs the Center for Mental Health Policy and Services Research at the University of Pennsylvania. He is also Associate Director of the Center for Autism Research at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The goal of his research is to improve the quality of care individuals with autism receive in their communities. Dr. Mandell is a former co-chair of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Autism Task Force and consults with the Department of Public Welfare to help them develop appropriate policies to meet the needs of families of children with autism. He currently serves as a member of the US Department of Health and Human Services Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee.  Dr. Mandell holds a bachelor of arts in psychology from Columbia University and a doctorate of science from the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health.
